I recently read a great article by Richard Branson on art of delegation. In the article he says “Work On–not–in your business”.
Work On-not–In your business: Seems like a novel idea but daunting at first. However as your business grows, so does the responsibilities which ultimately means more time working. The challenge as an entrepreneurs, small business or any business for that matter is to find ways to keep the machine running without getting caught in the weeds and the everyday demands of life.
As an entrepreneur you have no limits or restrictions. There is nothing that’s not possible if you are resourceful enough. Well, except for freezing time or time traveling. Time is the most valuable commodity to an entrepreneur. Most of us would do anything to have another hour in the day. But until someone creates an app to manipulate time, we are forced to manage our time extremely efficiently.
If you find some of the tasks on your plate are weighing you down, outsource them. If you aren’t the only person who can accomplish these tasks, delegate them in order to keep yourself on track and meeting those goals that you have set for yourself and your business. There are companies that will do just about anything … well in our case, so as long as it’s legal, moral and ethical you can consider it DONE!
The challenge at first with delegating is your strong desire to micromanage. Don’t do it! It’s counterproductive. Find a professional Concierge, Virtual Personal Assistant who is competent and trust that they know what they are doing. After all they built a business on helping busy people just like you.
Working on your business rather than in it 100% provides you with the space and time to create your vision and activate it.
It all comes down to achieving the right balance of working on vs. in your business. You can’t up and vacate your position to achieve balance as your business will suffer, clients will be upset and your employees won’t feel secure. Its just a matter or tweaking and finding the right balance. It’s about asking for help and making the most of your 24 hours.
If you need some helping “Balancing” the scales of life and work we at Balance InStyle would love to help!
